Maximillah
During my two week stay in Kisiita, I had the honor of getting to know some of the people living in the beautiful community. One of the amazing people I got to meet was Maximillah, an 18-year-old girl who dreams of becoming a nurse. Throughout her life she has suffered from palsy and asthma. She has not been able to receive care for her conditions. Battling these health issues on her own has inspired her to pursue nursing school. She hopes that one day she will have the qualifications to provide care to her community and family. She scored excellent grades on all her A levels, but hasn't been able to attend nursing school due to lack of funds.
Joyce
Joyce came into the clinic one day looking to receive dental care. Unfortunately, the clinic didn't have the service that she was looking for. Somehow, it came up that she had shadowed a nurse previously, and had some basic skills and training. As the clinic was outrageously busy, my mom recruited her to help out in the clinic with running basic tests (things work differently in Uganda than they do in the States - less red tape to say the least). She worked incredibly hard, and has continued to come back to the clinic every day since to help out. Her dream is to get her nursing degree, but her family does not have the money. She is 20 years old, and has been trying to save up for school for the past 2 years. Sadly, her family simply doesn't make enough to support her dreams.
Though fundraising will first and foremost serve the clinic, I am also hoping to raise enough money to empower these women in the pursuit of their dreams! Nursing school only costs $3,600 in Uganda, and completing the program will change these young women's lives forever!
