What: Our Mission

Our founders believe that quality health care is a universal human right. This ideal is far from reality in Uganda. Quality healthcare is a luxury reserved only for wealthy individuals living in it's largest cities.

Most health centers in rural areas are level III or below. They are run by nurses or clinical officers rather than doctors, and do not offer extensive care.  All that is provided are maternal health services and simple diagnostic tests. Furthermore, health centers in rural Uganda are few and far between, making them difficult to reach.

Restore health Uganda is dedicated to improving medical care for rural Ugandans by funding the opening of quality clinics in underserved areas that can provide extensive care.

Who: Meet the Founders

Lillian Tumwesige, a nurse, and Hilary Tumwesige, a doctor, were both inspired to pursue medical professions from a young age after watching Uganda's medical care system fail those closest to them.

As a young girl, Lillian watched her half-brother and aunt suffer and die from long term illnesses without medical aid. This inspired her to pursue medicine despite societal discouragement against female education.

While stuck in a juvenile prison for two years for a crime he did not commit, Dr. Hillary Tumwesige was appointed head boy of the prisoners, and was responsible for taking sick inmates to the nearby clinics. Often times he and the inmates would wait all day without receiving care, inspiring Hillary to promise God that if he ever got out of prison, he would become a doctor and help everyone he could. He was cleared of all charges in 2010 and received his medical license in 2021.

Why: The Inspiration

"And now these three remain, faith hope and love, but the greatest of these is love"

(1 Corinthians 13:13)

There are many things that have inspired the formation of this organization, but the greatest inspiration is love. We are called to love and care for all of God's creations, and Restore International, though it is small now, plans to grow into a powerful force for good that spreads love and joy through health care.

"Even in the most difficult situation, we can succeed" - Lillian Obbo Tumwesige
