Click here to watch an inspiring interview with Lillian. In it, she describes how watching members of her family suffer and die without medical care inspired her to pursue medicine.
This pursuit proved controversial and difficult. In Uganda, female education isn't prioritized, so her mother had to fight to convince her father to allow her to attend nursing school under the watch of a disapproving community. Eventually, she gained the support of both of her parents and made it through.
Her dream is still to become a doctor, though, and she won't give up hope.
Working at the clinic is extremely difficult. She, Herbert, and Hillary work every day from 7AM to 11PM with no weekends or holidays, and they are often woken up in the middle of the night to treat emergency patients. Meanwhile, she also must care for of 2 year old son Luke!
